CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle manual therapy for evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes, soft tissues and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. Developed and founded by John E. Upledger (Osteopathic Physician & Professor of Biomechanics) in 1985 - CST is a light-touch approach that can help to release tensions deep in the body relieving pain and dysfunction improving whole-body health.
The Central Nervous System (CNS) of the human body greatly influences our health and well-being. Along side the CNS we have the craniosacral system which has the biggest impact on the CNS because it includes the soft tissues and fluid that protects the brain and spinal cord.
The brain is the mastermind behind our personal health. There are 29 bones in the human skull surrounding our brain. It forms a shell protecting and supporting the brain, ears, eyes, nerves along with other sensory organs. Every day we endure stresses and strains that are readily absorbed by our body. The body is designed to handle only so much tension - a small trauma such as a fall, sports injury, car accident ~ basically any unexpected impact causing disruption and the alignment of these bones will likely cause the tissues to tighten - potentially affecting the brain and spinal cord and thereby compromising the function of the CNS and performance of nearly every other system in the body.
The CST treatment is founded in the trust that the body innately knows how to heal and balance itself. Injury, postural imbalances or trauma (physical, emotional & energetic) can create restriction within the craniosacral system and using this gentle contact to tune into the body, the therapist reads the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances allowing the cerebrospinal fluid to move freely through the spinal cord as the misaligned bones restore to their proper position.
CST naturally helps eliminate pain and stress, strengthening the immune system and enhancing overall health and well-being. CST is so gentle it can be effective for all ages ~ newborn to seniors.
CST shines on its own a typical session takes place in a quite, private setting. You remain fully clothed as you relax on a comfortable massage table ~ much like a Reiki session (avoid jeans / bulky sweaters). The practitioner begins assessing specific areas of your body - monitoring the rhythm of the fluid around the central nervous system ~ quietly 'listening'! Once problem areas are identified the practitioner uses delicate manual techniques to release these areas of concern - releasing these holding patterns improving overall patterns of muscle tension as well as supporting the nervous system in resetting to a more balanced state. .
A CST session can last up to an hour or more. CST can be used alone or integrated with other therapies to create very powerful effects. Most clients leave feeling calm, relaxed and 'lighter' … any prior residual signs of discomfort tend to resolve within 48-72 hours.

Developed by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral, Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle manual therapy that aids your body's ability to release restrictions and unhealthy structural compensations causing pain and dysfunction.
'Viscera' relates to the internal organs of the body, such as the stomach, liver, kidneys and intestines - icluding; the musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic systems. VM does not focus solely on the site of pain or dysfunction but evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension of above organs and their structural relationships between the viscera, & their fascial or ligamentous attachments within the body to find the source of the problem. The practitioner feels for the altered or decreased motion within the viscera, as well as restrictive patterns (caused by surgical scars, adhesion, illness, posture or injury) throughout the body and then applies VM techniques. VM therapy re-establishes the body's ability to adapt & restore itself to health. It increases proprioceptive communication within the body revitalizing the client and relieving the symptoms of pain, dysfunction and poor posture.
It is well documented that our emotions have a great impact on how our body functions, & this is greatly due to how receptive organs are to our feelings. Different emotions affect different organs. Emotional reactions can translate into simple spasms in the gallbladder or heartburn, vomiting, feeling faint, ulcers, & serious diseases. When the brain receives negative emotions it sends tension to the related organ, the organ then sends tension back to the brain resulting in a vicious cycle. Conversely, a physically damaged or imbalanced organ can stimulate an emotional upset. VM can break this cycle, enhance the health of the organ, & restore emotional balance.
As each person's situation is different the number of visits will vary. Many people experience significant improvement within three to five therapy sessions; others may require additional treatment.
This is the non-invasive technique that assisted with my recovery from a car accident - addressing the whiplash & seat belt injury along with other dysfunctions from surgeries I have had. As a result my fascination grew and I had to learn more. Most clients experience relief within 72 hours. Call today for more information or contact Shannon to book a session.
